Guy Russo

In the sixth episode of the CUNA News Podcast, credit union technology leader Guy Russo details the most pressing tech-related concerns for credit unions.

Russo, chief information officer for $2.28 billion asset CommunityAmerica Credit Union in Lenexa, Kan., says staying on top of the digital transformation of the business is a big task.

“The expectations of how you do banking in the future are changing, and it is stressing a lot of organizations to continue to remain relevant,” Russo says.

All credit union leaders are trying to figure out the “right mix of technology, people, and, service,” he says.

Russo shared his opinions on cloud computing, digital transformation, and blockchain--a technology that served as the backbone of bitcoin.

Blockchain is a hot topic in the industry this year. CUNA, the Mountain West Credit Union Association, and Best Innovation Group are spearheading a blockchain initiative known as CU Ledger.

Russo is the chair of the CUNA Technology Council executive committee. That organization will hold its annual conference in Las Vegas next week in conjunction with the CUNA Operations, Sales and Service Council.

In the second part of the show, Greg Inman, the executive committee chair for the CUNA Operations, Sales and Service Council, shares some details about the joint conference, held Sept. 28-30.
