PODCAST: What it takes to be a rock star financial education pro

Encouraging members to budget for what they love.

October 28, 2016

Amy Crowe

Amy Crowe, financial education specialist at $2.4 billion asset Summit Credit Union in Madison, Wis., has a passion for sharing what she knows: personal finance tips.

She spreads the power of financial literacy in many ways: speaking at schools, companies, and other venues; developing how-to personal finance seminars and motivational lifestyle sessions; and helming two of the credit union’s signature financial education programs, Project Money and Project Teen Money.

“The biggest thing I'm trying to work on communicating to people is to budget toward what you love,” says Crowe in the latest CUNA News Podcast.

Crowe says she was inspired to teach that concept after hearing author Jason Vitug, who wrote the book “You Only Live Once,” speak this summer.

“I think a lot of people think of it the other way around,” she says. “They put their budget together with how they've been spending their money versus where they want to really spend their money.”

Crowe's passion for sharing budgeting tips led her to being named a Credit Union Magazine Rock Star in a special edition of the magazine sponsored by Fiserv.

In the podcast, Crowe discusses what it takes to help members overcome negative feelings about money and achieve their financial dreams.
