Credit union graphics available for Small Business Saturday

November 22, 2016

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 26. It’s a day that encourages people across America to support small, local businesses.

Credit unions can participate in this daylong celebration on social media as a reminder that they strongly support small businesses by using the hashtags #SmallBusinessSaturday and #SmallBizSat.

Credit union-specific infographics are available that highlight America’s credit unions’ support for small businesses. They can be used on all social platforms --graphics are sized to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram dimensions.

A few facts about small businesses from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA):

  • Over 50% of the working population (120 million
    individuals) works in a small business
  • Small businesses have generated over 65% of the net
    new jobs since 1995;
  • The SBA defines a small business as an enterprise having fewer than 500 employees; and
  • 7 out of 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more

CUNA and America’s credit unions support legislation that would increase the member business lending cap to 27.5% of assets from 12.25%. If the cap was increased credit unions could lend an additional $16 billion to small businesses, helping them create 150,000 new jobs in one year, according to CUNA research.
