Paul Meissner of Credit Union of America earned the CFO Professional of the Year Award at the CUNA CFO Council Conference on Monday, and Julie Renderos received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Meissner, senior vice president/CFO at the Wichita, Kan., credit union has defined his more than 40-year career through a commitment to personal growth, risk-taking, and creative thinking.
Renderos, executive vice president/CFO of Suncoast Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., won the Volunteer of the Year Award, which honors a CUNA CFO Council member who has amply, admirably, and enthusiastically served the organization.
Ent Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., earned the Excellence in Finance Award, which recognizes credit unions that exemplify excellence in finance and promote credit union philosophy through leadership. The credit union raised its net worth more than 12% in 2016 while minimizing interest-rate risk.
Amanda Brown earned the Top Community Contributor Award as an exceptional contributor to the CUNA CFO Council Community, the Council’s online communications platform. Brown is vice president of finance at Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union in Charleston, S.C.
Also at Monday’s Membership Luncheon, CUNA distributed the Membership Benefit Awards, which recognize credit unions who return the most value to their membership.
Winners from various asset categories include:
• Less than $200 million in assets: Utica (N.Y.) Gas and Electric Employees Federal Credit Union ($507 benefit per member); Nizari Progressive Federal Credit Union ($292).
• $200 million to $1 billion in assets: Houston Police Credit Union ($863); Nebraska Energy Credit Union ($616).
• More than $1 billion in assets: Star One Credit Union ($1,504); Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union ($806).
