CUNA engaged with Equifax, other hearings this week

CUNA is heavily engaged with 3 separate hearings this week regarding the Equifax data breach, as well as several other hearings in both chambers of Congress. CUNA is continuing to monitor potential effects of the breach, while announcing its intention to sue Equifax and conducting a call on potential credit union legal actions.

Former Equifax CEO and Chairman Richard Smith will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee (Tuesday, 10 a.m. (ET)), Senate Banking Committee (Wednesday, 10 a.m. (ET)) and House Financial Services Committee (Thursday, 9:15 a.m. ET)).

In addition, the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on privacy, technology and the law will conduct a hearing titled “Equifax: Continuing to Monitor Data Broker Security” Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

Other hearings CUNA is engaged with this week include:

  • Tuesday, 10 a.m. (ET): Senate Banking Committee hearing “Wells Fargo: One Year Later;”
     
  • Tuesday, 10 a.m. (ET): House Financial Services Committee hearing “Sustainable Housing Finance: An Update from the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency;”
     
  • Tuesday, 2 p.m. (ET): House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on information technology hearing “Cybersecurity and the Internet of Things;”
     
  • Wednesday, 9 a.m. (ET): Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing titled “Still Ringing Off the Hook: An Update on Efforts to Combat Robocalls;”
     
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. (ET): House Financial Services Committee hearing, “Examining the SEC’s Agenda, Operations and Budget;” and
     
  • Wednesday 11 a.m. (ET): House Small Business Committee hearing titled “Small Business Tax Reform: Modernizing the Code for the Nation’s Job Creators;.
     

In addition, the House will take up the budget resolution for fiscal year 2018 this week. The Senate Budget Committee will begin a 2-day markup of the fiscal year 2018 budget resolution Wednesday.
