CUNA President/CEO urged credit union leaders around the country to contact their Senators to support the Economic Growth, Regulatory Reform and Consumer Protection Act (S. 2155). Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filed cloture on the motion to proceed Thursday, indicating the Senate is preparing to take up the bill.
“S. 2155 is bipartisan, common-sense reform legislation that will protect seniors from elder abuse, make mortgage processing easier and quicker, increase affordable rental housing in our communities and help credit unions provide better service to their members,” Nussle said. “Credit unions have been advocating for common-sense regulation for months, and just this week thousands of credit union leaders traveled to Washington as part of the 2018 CUNA GAC.
“Your voices helped get this bill to the floor. Now it's time for Congress to fight for the 110 million Americans who depend on credit unions,” Nussle added.
Nussle noted this is especially important since opponents of the bill have driven more than 450,000 grassroots actions against the bill.
Stakeholders can reach out to their elected officials using CUNA’s Campaign for Common-Sense Regulation website, and can also sign up for CUNA’s Member Activation Program to go out to their members and ask them to contact their Senators to support S. 2155.
