CUs raise $380K for CMN Hospitals for Cherry Blossom Run
Credit unions present Children's Miracle Network Hospitals with a check for $380,000 at this year's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk Sunday. This year marked the 17th year of title sponsorship by Credit Union Miracle Day. Credit unions have raised more than $8 million since then.

Sunday morning saw 16,661 runners participate in the 2018 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, with an additional 2,529 in the 5K Run-Walk. This year marked the 17th year of title sponsorship by Credit Union Miracle Day, over which more than $8 million has been raised for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including $380,000 from this year’s race.

CUNA is a sponsor of the race, along with Congressional FCU, United States Senate FCU, the National Association for Federally Insured Credit Unions and many others, including lead sponsors CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU.

On his first trip to America, 21-year-old Jemal Yimer broke away from a dwindling lead group in the last mile of the race with a time of 46:17. His compatriot Buze Diriba won the women’s race in 53:45 after finishing second the past two years.

Hundreds of children gathered at the National Building Museum Saturday for the Credit Union Blossom Kinds Run. The event included games, warm-up exercises and runners ages 4-10 running a short course and receiving medals.

Across the country on Sunday, Sacramento, Calif. saw the 8th Annual Credit Union SACTOWN Run, put on by the Sacramento Running Association and sponsored by California and Nevada credit unions. The event drew runners of all ages and abilities to help raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
