Victory for credit union-supported candidates in Idaho and Pennsylvania

Washington, D.C. (May 16, 2018) – Candidates backed by America's credit unions saw primary election victories in competitive races in Idaho and Pennsylvania yesterday.

Former state Senator Russ Fulcher (R-I.D.) won 43% of the vote in the GOP primary election. Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee,  and Northwest Credit Union Association supported the former state senator in his bid.

In Pennsylvania, CULAC and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (PCUA) supported former Secretary of Revenue Dan Meuser (R-P.A.) in the COP primary for this seat vacated by Rep. Lou Barletta (R-P.A.), who won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. Meuser saw an easy win with 53% of the vote to his two opponents’ 24% and 23%, respectively. Additionally, State Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R-P.A.), a champion of credit unions in Harrisburg, defeated Rick Saccone by 55% - 45%.

As Congressional lines are redrawn in Pennsylvania, there will be at least seven new Representatives. To date, CULAC has worked with PCUA to identify pro-credit union candidates in three of those seven open seats – Meuser, Reschenthaler and Chrissy Houlahan (D-P.A.) who ran unopposed yesterday in the PA-6 Democratic primary.

In addition to the primary candidates, CULAC supported several other incumbents who were not in competitive races.
