CUNA is engaged with appropriations legislation, a bill to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and an oversight hearing of the Federal Communications Commission, among other activities in Washington, D.C. this week.
The House is expected to consider The National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act (S. 1182), which would extend the NFIP for an additional four months, until Nov. 30.
CUNA supports efforts to reauthorize the NFIP, and recognizes that continuing reforms are necessary to improve the actuarial footing of the NFIP and to ensure stability in the housing market in affected areas.
The Senate is expected to consider a second "minibus" bill, consisting for four bills passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee, including the Financial Services and General Government bill. The Senate FSGG bill contains CUNA-supported full finding for the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.
The House also may consider the conference report to accompany the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (H.R. 5515). CUNA has written to oppose a provision in the bill that could exclude credit unions from the current resources furnished to them on military bases.
