National Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Gigi Hyland appeared on CUBroadcast this week to talk about the connection between health and financial well-being. Hyland discussed the Foundation’s white paper, “Health and Financial Well-being: Two Good Things that Go Better Together," among other topics.
During the interview, Hyland recalled the conversation that inspired the paper, given by two pediatricians at a financial services conference. The doctors spoke about the connection between health and wealth.
“I thought, what is the opportunity for credit unions in this space? We know credit union fields of membership can include a hospital system. Many have added healthcare systems to their fields of membership as well,” Hyland said. “On the philanthropic side, credit unions are the third biggest contributors to Children’s Miracle Network. So, there’s a great tie-in with credit unions and the healthcare system.”
Other topics covered during the interview include:
The Foundation also released a second part to its white paper, this one focusing on key elements of a successful credit union-healthcare partnership.
