Credit unions worldwide celebrated International Credit Union Day on Wednesday, Oct. 18, under the theme “Find Your Platinum Lining.”
This year marks the 70th anniversary of ICU Day, thus the platinum theme, which also underscores the impact credit union and other financial cooperatives have made and continue to make for their members and communities.
Through ICU Day festivities worldwide, credit unions raise awareness through outreach and volunteering in the community, organizing contests, charitable fundraisers, and open houses, ultimately contributing to World Council's Vision 2020 goal of adding 50 million new members by the year 2020.
Here’s a glimpse through a social media lens how credit unions marked the day.
One of the most important principles of a credit union is democratic control. We work on a 'one-member, one-vote' basis, which means that all members have an equal say in how the credit union is run. This helps us to ensure that all voices are heard equally. #ICUDay pic.twitter.com/bjbBT5p1tj— Harvest Money (@harvestmoneycu) October 18, 2018
Ann Heiden of @WOCCU stopped by this morning to help us kick off #ICUDay. Our President Ron Covey presented a donation to help @WOCCU advance banking for rural populations and promote #FinLit around the world. #SMBLife pic.twitter.com/PTbwOi13Dn— St. Mary's Bank (@StMarysBankCU) October 18, 2018
