CUNA has launched a website highlighting each of the candidates supported by CUNA, leagues and credit unions in the 2018 mid-terms. CUNA and the leagues invested nearly $7 million on more than 380 pro-credit union candidates in all 50 states for the House and Senate.
Visitors to the site can click on a state to see credit union-supported candidates, with candidates supported by independent expenditures and partisan communications highlighted. The list also highlights the 48 candidates supported by credit unions vying for open seats.
CUNA’s support includes direct contributions to candidates by the Credit Union Legislative Action Council, (CULAC), CUNA’s as well direct voter engagement via mailers and ads on television, radio and online in targeted districts.
CUNA announced several of these expenditures in the last month in support of candidates in particularly tight races. These efforts were highlighted in several Washington, D.C.-based political publications.
CUNA also launched a “Credit Unions Vote” Member Activation Program campaign in September, designed to connect credit union members with voting resources, available online at www.CreditUnionsVote.com. Credit unions who participated told CUNA News that they received positive feedback from their participation.
This is the ninth election cycle CULAC and CUNA has been involved in, supporting credit union friendly candidates from both parties.
