McCarthy elected House Minority Leader in leadership elections

November 14, 2018

House Republicans conducted leadership elections Wednesday, filling positions for the 116th Congress. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was named House Minority Leader.

“We congratulate Congressman McCarthy on his election to become House Minority Leader. Through appearances at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference, his sponsoring of numerous pieces of credit union-supported legislation and close relationship with the California and Nevada Credit Union League, he has proven himself a strong ally to credit unions and the 110 million members they serve,” CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle said. “We look forward to continuing our engagement with him to secure much-needed regulatory relief for credit unions.”

In addition to McCarthy being named House Minority Leaders, other positions filled include:

  • Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), House Minority Whip;
  • Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Republican Conference Chair;
  • Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.), Republican Conference Vice Chair; and
  • Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), National Republican Congressional Committee Chair.

House Democrats are expected to conduct their leadership elections for Speaker of the House and other positions in late November.
