MADISON, Wis., and WASHINGTON (December 20, 2018) – History-making polar explorer, mountaineer, and The New York Times bestselling author Alison Levine will speak at the Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference (CUNA GAC), taking place March 10-14. Her keynote address will spotlight leadership tactics such as creating cohesive teams, taking responsible risks and developing no-nonsense leaders that can succeed in times of uncertainty.

Levine has ascended the highest peaks on every continent, completed expeditions to both the North and South Pole and lead the first American Women’s Everest Expedition.

“Levine’s success in extreme environments, along with her experience as an adjunct professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is remarkably impressive,” said Todd Spiczenski, Chief Products and Services Officer at CUNA. “Attendees are sure to walk away from her keynote address feeling motivated to conquer big challenges and opportunities.”

In addition to having tackled some of the most difficult environments in the outdoors, Levine also spent time climbing the corporate ladder. She worked in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, earned an MBA from Duke University, and spent three years working for Goldman Sachs. She left Goldman in 2003 to serve as deputy finance director for Arnold Schwarzenegger in his successful bid to become Governor of California.

In her post-climbing career, Levine authored the bestselling On the Edge, founded the nonprofit Climb High Foundation and joined the faculty at the United States Military Academy at West Point’s Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership.

CUNA GAC, March 10-14, 2019, is the largest credit union advocacy event, gathering more than 5,000 credit union leaders annually to Washington D.C. to network, learn about the latest issues and hot topics in the credit union industry and meet with lawmakers to make a case for fair regulation on behalf of the more than 110 million credit union members nationwide. To see a full list of speakers and to register, visit cuna.org/gac.
