Nussle talks CU assistance for federal workers on MSNBC

January 24, 2019
JimMSNBC

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle talked about the credit union response to the government shutdown with MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt Thursday. Nussle noted that federal workers are concerned as the shutdown continues, credit unions are working hard to help members pay their bills.

“We’ve got a credit union in Kansas City that has extended close to 700 loans to federal workers, and one in Houston with 200 loans already on the books to federal workers. There are 30 credit unions in Wisconsin, where I am today, that are out extending loans to federal workers to help bridge the gap, and this is the case across America,” Nussle said. “There are over 500 credit unions across the country that are trying to help their members that also work for the federal government.”

CUNA is regularly updating a shutdown assistance website to track credit union services being offered to affected government employees across the country.

In addition to its webpage, CUNA has reached out on a regular basis to Congressional offices informing them of credit union efforts, and has responded to both Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and five members of the Senate Banking Committee after information was requested.

As noted by MSNBC, Nussle served as director of the Office of Management and Budget from 2007 to 2009 and served in Congress representing Iowa from 1991 to 2007.
