Compliance: CFPB publishes reference chart for HMDA data

February 4, 2019

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Friday published resources on Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data reporting for data collected in 2019. The Reportable HMDA Data: A Regulatory and Reporting Overview Reference Chart for Data Collected in 2019 is intended as a reference tool for data points required under Regulation C, which implements HMDA.

The resource includes revisions made since he October 2015 HMDA rule revision, including the August 2017 and changes and the changes required by enactment of the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act (S. 2155) issued in August 2018.

The chart also incorporates the information found in the latest update of the 2019 Filing Instructions Guide (FIG), and provides when to report “not applicable or exempt,” including the codes used for reporting “not applicable or exempt” from section 4 of the 2019 FIG. The chart is not a substitute for the 2019 FIG, which should be consulted.

The chart also does not provide data fields or enumerations used in preparing the HMDA loan/application register (LAR) nor does it contain information about the submission process or procedures.

Links to the reference chart and the FIG can be found on CUNA’s CompBlog.

In addition to the CompBlog, CUNA’s Compliance Community contains discussion boards and a number of other resources for credit union compliance professionals around the country.
