Washington, DC (February 11, 2019) — Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President/CEO Jim Nussle issued the following statement on the passing of North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones.
“Walter Jones was a dear friend of the credit union movement who recognized the vital role credit unions play in small business and individual member support. His passing will be felt across his community and throughout our movement. Serving alongside Walter in the House was an honor, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family on this incredibly difficult day.”
A longtime champion of the credit union movement, Jones was bestowed with the moniker “Credit Union Jones,” which he wore with pride. Jim Nussle and Walter Jones served together in the United States House of Representatives from 1995-2007.
