CUNA witness testifies this week, as do NCUA, FHFA nominees

February 11, 2019

CUNA will have a witness testifying on its behalf before a House subcommittee Wednesday and will be closely engaged with NCUA and Federal Housing Finance Administration nominees before a Senate committee Thursday. CUNA also continues to monitor negotiations for funding the federal government past Feb. 15, when it lapses.

Rachel Pross, chief risk officer at MAPS CU, Salem, Ore., will testify on CUNA’s behalf before the House Financial Services subcommittee on consumer protection and financial institutions for a hearing titled “Challenges and Solutions: Access to Banking Services for Cannabis-Related Businesses.”

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (ET) Wednesday and will be streamed on the committee’s website.

Trump re-nominated Hood in January after nominating him in the last Congress, but Hood did not receive a hearing. Harper was nominated in early February.

Calabria is the current chief economist for Vice President Mike Pence. He was nominated to succeed current FHFA Director Mel Watt in December. He previously served as director of financial regulation studies at the Cato Institute.

The Senate Banking Committee is expected to hear testimony from Hood, Harper and Calabria, as well as from Bimal Patel, nominee to serve as an assistant secretary of the Treasury, Thursday starting at 10 a.m. (ET). Video of the hearing will be streamed on the committee’s website.
