CUNA staff talk cyber, CECL, ADA, awareness at CUNA GAC

March 28, 2019

Despite the busy pace of a historic 2019 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference, several CUNA leaders took the time to speak with CUBroadcast during the event on a wide variety of issues of interest to credit unions.

Previous CUNA GAC CUBroadcast interviews with CUNA staff were released a week after the event and coverage can be found here.

Lance Noggle, CUNA senior director of advocacy for payments and cybersecurity, spoke with hose Mike Lawson about the future of payments, as well as a breakout session he conducted on exercises credit unions can conduct to prepare for cybersecurity incidents.

Alexander Monterrubio, CUNA senior director of advocacy and counsel, discussed the latest in rulemakings from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the status of credit unions facing frivolous lawsuits due to uncertainty with how the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to websites.

Luke Martone, CUNA senior director of advocacy and counsel, talked about FASB’s upcoming current expected credit loss standard and what it means for credit unions, as well as potential avenues for change.

Greg Michlig, CUNA’s chief engagement officer, spoke about system engagement, how CUNA’s Associate Business Members support CUNA’s advocacy efforts and the association's relationship with CUNA Mutual Group.

Susan Toalson, CUNA vice president of credit union awareness, highlighted the progress of CUNA’s awareness initiative, including the deployment of the Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union® campaign and shared her personal passion for the effort.
