Risk-based capital proposal on NCUA’s June 20 agenda

June 13, 2019

The NCUA board will release a proposal on risk-based capital at its June 20 meeting, according to the agenda released Thursday. The proposal is the only item on the agenda.

CUNA, in letters to NCUA board Chairman Rodney Hood and board member Todd Harper sent when they were sworn in, cited NCUA’s risk-based capital rule as an area in which NCUA could improve its regulations.

NCUA finalized a rule delaying implementation of the risk-based capital rule to Jan. 1, 2020 and raised the threshold for risk-based capital compliance to credit unions with more than $500 million in assets.

CUNA supported the changes as finalized but continues to have concerns with NCUA’s overall approach to risk-based capital.

The meeting will be streamed live on NCUA.gov starting at 10 a.m. (ET) June 20.
