Steve Salzer

There are four elements to an effective board framework, according to Steve Salzer, senior vice president risk and general counsel for PSCU.

Salzer shared his views on board governance during an industry trends breakout session Tuesday at the America’s Credit Union Conference at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida.

He says an effective board framework consists of:

  • Strategic alignment.
  • Structure and process.
  • People and composition.
  • Culture.

PSCU’s board is comprised of 11 board members, and four associate board members, all of them credit union CEOs.

Salzer’s overview also covered:

  • Responsibilities of the board.
  • Recruiting board members.
  • Succession planning.
  • Roles and responsibilities of the chairman.
  • Establishing a successful culture.

PSCU is a CUNA associate business member at the premier level.
