Conn. League names Bruce Adams as president/CEO

July 22, 2019

The Board of Directors of the Credit Union League of Connecticut announced Friday that Bruce Adams will be joining the league as president/CEO on August 19.

“Selected from a strong field of candidates, the board is excited that Bruce will be leading the next chapter of our success. He brings an impressive blend of legal, policy, and business experience which will be extremely valuable to furthering the credit union movement in Connecticut.” said Michael Hinchey, board chairman.

Adams is currently the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Services. Prior to his current service, he was General Counsel to Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman where he provided legal, policy and strategic counsel to the Wyman and her staff. He also assisted her in her role as president of the Connecticut State Senate, which, for the first time since the late 19th century, was evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.

“CUNA congratulates Bruce Adams on being named president/CEO of the Credit Union League of Connecticut,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “The CUNA/League system is the leading voice of advocacy for credit unions and the 115 million Americans who choose them as their best financial partner, and we know Bruce will be a strong voice for those members, especially the more than 900,000 credit union members in Connecticut.”

Adams also served as General Counsel to the Connecticut Department of Banking. In that role he developed and executed agency policy and legislation, oversaw the agency’s enforcement activity and supervised the Government Relations and Consumer Affairs unit.

“The Credit Union League of Connecticut provides its members—mission-driven, not-for-profit, local financial institutions—with both a deep portfolio of products and services as well as top-flight public advocacy,” Adams said. “I’m very grateful to the Board for allowing me the opportunity to leverage the collective strength of our credit unions and help them succeed in this challenging marketplace. We will work together to provide even greater value to our members by more closely aligning our vision with our product portfolio.”

He has significant nonprofit experience. He has held multiple development positions at the University of Connecticut Foundation and currently serves on the board of the Henrietta B. and Frederick H. Bugher Foundation, which has provided over $40 million in donations for cardiovascular research.

Adams lives in West Hartford and is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, the University of Vermont and Pomfret School.
