CFPB assigns new student loan ombudsman

August 19, 2019

Robert G. Cameron has been appointed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to serve as the Bureau’s private education loan ombudsman.

Created by the Dodd-Frank Act, the bill gives Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger the authority to elect the ombudsman. The ombudsman is responsible for investigating and resolving complaints from private student loan borrowers, compiling and analyzing complaint data on private education loans, and making appropriate recommendations to policy makers.

Mr. Cameron is a Colonel and Staff Judge Advocate for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and served in the US Army for twenty-nine years. He previously worked for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency where he oversaw litigation, compliance, and risk mitigation efforts.
