Credit union supporter Greg Murphy (R) won a special election Tuesday to represent North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, filling the seat vacated by the passing of Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) in February. Murphy was supported by CUNA’s political action committee, the Credit Union Legislative Action Council, and the Carolinas Credit Union League.
Murphy defeated Democratic challenger Allen Thomas, former mayor of Greenville, N.C., and two other candidates by taking 61.7% of the vote. The district covers most of North Carolina’s coastline.
During the August recess Murphy met with staff from the Carolinas Credit Union League and Marine FCU CEO Jeff Clark at Marine FCU’s offices.
