Sessions, speakers announced for Board Certification School

January 3, 2020

CUNA’s Credit Union Board Certification School is set for May 4-8, 2020, in New Orleans.

This school was created to ensure that board members are well-rounded and equipped with the fundamental knowledge needed to perform their role to their highest potential.

Attendees will hear from industry experts David Reed, Tim Harrington, Jeff Rendel and James This on various topics, including:

  • Board operations and development;
  • Governance;
  • CEO oversight;
  • Compliance fundamentals;
  • Fundamentals of financials; and
  • Strategic planning

“Well balanced and focused on the significant areas surrounding credit unions,” said Theodore Kilby Jr., a director at Transportation FCU, Alexandria, Va. “Because this training covers all areas, it is certainly beneficial and pertinent to the duties and fiduciary responsibilities of board members in particular.”

This educational and networking opportunity sets attendees up for success by helping them understand their duties and giving them the financial acumen to make informed decisions.

“If you are a well-functioning board, it will strengthen you,” said Dr. Kathleen Lang, Board Member at First Imperial CU, El Centro, Calif. “If you are a struggling board, it will give you direction as to your real objectives.”

Attendees will also have the chance to prove their mastery of the concepts learned at this school by earning their Certified Credit Union Board Member (CCUB) designation onsite. There is also an online option available for those unable to travel.
