Mary Hansen, CEO of Mayo Employees FCU (MEFCU), Rochester, Minn, was awarded a Minnesota ICON award recently in recognition of her more than three decades of community leadership. The Minnesota ICON award is given to leaders who have made a long-term and extraordinary commitment to leadership within their organization as well as their community.
Hansen began her career with MEFCU 20 years ago, when the organization’s membership was 17,000 with $100 million in assets. Today there are over 64,000 members with an asset size of over $1 billion.
Under her guided expertise, MEFCU has seen significant growth year after year—a testament to both her impact and accomplishments. Hansen is also responsible for helping Brighter Tomorrows, a Rochester based non-profit, gain recognition and support over the past few years.
Brighter Tomorrows provides outreach to families affected by childhood cancer. As a chair for their largest annual event, the Go for the Gold 5k Walk/Run, Hansen and her entire family have helped the organization raise over $43,000 in recent years.
Beyond Brighter Tomorrows, Mary has served on the MN Credit Union Foundation Board since 2006, and on the MN Credit Union Network board for 8 years, presently serving as Vice Chair.
“Mary has a tremendous passion for the credit union movement and gives generously of her time and leadership talents to ensure our state and national trade associations are doing the best they can in supporting credit unions,” said Sue Palen, executive vice president of MEFCU.
