Volunteers from $96 million asset Oswego (N.Y.) County Federal Credit Union (OCFCU) gathered recently on a cold Saturday morning to distribute hundreds of gloves, hats, mittens, and other winter clothing throughout local parks and streets to help keep residents warm throughout the winter.
The effort was part of the credit union’s “Gloves with Love” event, which started in 2015.
During the first year, OCFCU distributed items in a local park. Since then the credit union has partnered with another local organization and expanded the event.
“Gloves with Love” aims to keep people warm during winter.
The credit union works with many nonprofit organizations during the holidays and the rest of the year.
OCFCU sponsors an Easter egg hunt involving more than 225 children.
Oswego County Federal sponsors “Movies in the Park” one Wednesday per month during the summer.
Led by President/CEO William Carhart, OCFCU has made volunteerism and community service top priorities.
Carhart was hired in 2004. The first fundraiser he organized was collecting clothing for soldiers fighting in Iraq.
The credit union collected socks, toiletries, snacks, candy, and magazines for service members, setting its path to volunteerism.
Now, OCFCU works with nonprofits and schools throughout the community, and employees volunteer throughout the year.
The credit union also sponsors children’s and adult activities. Among these are an annual Easter Egg hunt, a Christmas celebration and 12 Days of Giving during the holidays, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Fireman’s Parade, Member Appreciation Days, and a “Trunk or Treat” Halloween event.
One Wednesday each month during the summer, OCFCU sponsors “Movies in the Park.” This event features free pizza and water, face painting, and a place for families to sit and enjoy an animated movie on a 30-foot screen—giving kids something to look forward to during a long summer break.
