Martinez: Don’t underestimate power of CUNA/League/CU system

Outgoing CUNA Board Chairman Brett Martinez thanked his family, fellow board members, CUNA, Leagues and credit unions during his remarks Monday at CUNA’s Annual General Meeting. Martinez’s speech was streamed live on CUNA’s Facebook page, and can be found below.

“It’s been an honor to serve on the CUNA Board, not just this past year as Chair, but over the whole 10 years I’ve been on the CUNA Board,” he said. “I’m very proud of everything CUNA has done and all of our accomplishments.”

Martinez, who grew up in a credit union, said the theme for his address is, “now is our time,” and urged those in attendance to utilize leadership and teamwork to continue advancing credit unions, members and communities.

“I’m a big believer in our three-tiered system because CUNA cannot do it alone. But with CUNA in D.C., the Leagues at the state level and all of you at the local level, that’s a combined powerful force working for our industry,” he said. “Please do not ever underestimate the power of the three-tiered system.”

New CUNA Board Chairman Troy Stang’s speech will be streamed live Tuesday morning on CUNA’s Facebook page at approximately 10:20 a.m. (ET).
