CUNA leaders talk Open Your Eyes, regulations, small CUs

March 4, 2020

CUNA leadership took time during a busy CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) last week to sit down with CUBroadcast and share information on their areas of expertise. This includes Chris Lorence, executive director of Credit Union Awareness, Elizabeth Eurgubian, deputy chief advocacy officer and Tom Sakash, manager of small credit union initiatives.

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle, Chief Engagement Officer Greg Michlig and Senior Policy Analyst Samira Salem have already been featured, and additional videos with CUNA staff will be available in the coming days.

Lorence provided an update on the Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union® campaign, including how its performing in the 21 states it has launched in and how credit unions are responding and reacting to the campaign.

Eurgubian discussed how the one-size-fits-all-style regulations that have come from the Dodd-Frank Act are impacting credit union operations and service to members, and what regulators such as NCUA and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are doing to re-evaluate some of these rules and regulations.

Sakash was joined by Lori Herrick, manager/CEO Manchester Municipal FCU, Manchester, Conn. to discuss a recent meeting during CUNA GAC with NCUA leaders, top issues concerning small credit unions based on a CUNA survey and the importance of succession planning at small credit unions.
