CUNA Councils committee members work year-round to share credit union ideas and best practices by offering networking opportunities for professionals within specific business areas. Sharing information has been essential to helping credit unions continue to meet members’ needs. And now, with more members facing financial uncertainty because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important to connect and collaborate with your credit union peers.
Keeping members informed on how their peers are pivoting to meet today’s turbulent business landscape remains a top priority for CUNA Councils. Amid social distancing, CUNA Councils is evolving to continue providing members with the resources and industry networking they need to thrive in their roles. One of the ways CUNA Councils is bridging the social distancing gap to connect members is through Council Live Chats. Many credit union leaders have found these chats to be valuable. Cindy McGuire, AVP consumer lending, Travis Credit Union in Vacaville, CA said, “It was beneficial in particular during these times to hear what others are experiencing and their solutions. [CUNA Councils] is a great resource!”
Topics professionals addressed during these chats include:
“It was so helpful to hear what other credit unions were doing to address member and employee concerns during the pandemic,” said Bill Thomas, 1st VP member operations at United Nations FCU in Long Island City, NY and member of CUNA Operations & Member Experience Council. “I learned a lot and shared much of the feedback with others at my credit union to show them the value of CUNA Councils.”
CUNA Councils emphasizes more than one-time peer connections. CUNA Councils promotes long-term relationships through CUNA Councils Communities, an online resource for credit union discussions. These online communities are a great place to continue conversations started during Council chats or to start new ones. There’s a Councils Community for seven distinct credit union business areas to help you network with professionals who can offer relevant insights and answer your questions.
