Illinois CUs provide millions in relief to members during pandemic

Illinois credit unions have provided hundreds of millions of dollars in relief to the more than 1.3 million credit union members in the state affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Illinois Credit Union League President/CEO Tom Kane appeared on CUBroadcast recently to discuss this and other ways the League is helping credit unions continue to assist members.

Highlights of credit union service in Illinois includes (as of the first week of May):

  • More than 700 offers of mortgage forbearance totaling $253,593,454;
  • More than 18,000 extensions of consumer loans totaling ($422,264,758)
  • Forbearance on 303 business loans totaling ($326,439,953)
  • Disbursement of 1,464 low or no-interest emergency loans totaling ($6,117,445) and
  • 7,772 instances of fees waived.
