Maine Governor Janet Mills urged residents of her state to support Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge in a video posted this week. The campaign, started in 1990, raises money from multiple credit union-related sources within the state and goes to local food pantries, schools and a food bank.
The $100,000 Challenge runs from June 4 to July 4. The Maine Credit Union League and Synergent have pledged $100,000, and challenges supporters to raise at least an additional $100,000.
Since the program’s inception Maine credit unions have raised over $9.4 million, and it set a record last year with $832,333 raised, including over $20,000 in food donations.
