Foundation’s Hyland addresses latest on CUAid disaster response

October 1, 2020

CUAid is always open and accepting donations, National Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Gigi Hyland said in a video detailing the current status of CUAid and how it has evolved. In the past, Hyland noted, the Foundation would raise money “per disaster” by activating CUAid, but after 2017 saw three hurricanes and wildfires in a matter of weeks, the Foundation began looking at it differently.

“At that time what we learned was that it’s really important to make sure we have constant and ongoing pot of money available for disaster relief so we can respond very quickly when disaster strikes,” she said.

CUAid has used funds left over from 2017 to begin issuing funds, including $100,000 recently to Louisiana, and another $30,000 earmarked for California and Nevada to help with hurricane and wildfire recovery.

Hyland also encouraged stakeholders to download the CUAid App, available for Apple and Android devices, and on web browsers. Additional information on the app can be found here.
