Dale Owen, president/CEO of Ascentra CU and Iowa Credit Union League Board Chair, passed away late last week, according the credit union. Owen served as president/CEO at Ascentra since 2013 and was elected chair of the Iowa League board in October.
“The credit union movement is saddened by the untimely loss of an inspiring leader with the passing of Dale Owen,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “Dale brought more than 30 years of experience to his role at Ascentra and to the Iowa Credit Union League and has built a career dedicated to improving the financial lives of others. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dale’s family and friends, as well as Ascentra Credit Union and the Iowa Credit Union League.”
Owen joined Ascentra in 1999 and served as executive vice president and Chief Lending Officer before being named CEO. He was currently serving his third term on the Iowa Credit Union League board, the first as chairman, having been elected in 2014.
“Together, the credit union community is mourning the loss of a fierce credit union advocate who was truly dedicated to improving the financial lives of others,” said Murray Williams, president/CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League. “Dale exemplified the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ and encouraged others around him to be of service, get involved and pay it forward.”
Owen previously served as president of the Iowa Credit Union Foundation, on the Federal Home Loan Bank MPF National Advisory Council and Iowa Credit Union League Payday Lending Task Force, in addition to numerous community boards, committees and advisory groups.
