Quick confirmation hearing needed for SBA nominee Guzman

January 18, 2021
SBALogo

The Senate Small Business Committee should move quickly to schedule a confirmation hearing for Isabel Guzman, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Small Business Administration, CUNA and other organizations wrote to the committee Friday.

“[Outgoing] Administrator [Jovita] Carranza’s successor will be expected to deliver on a newly authorized Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), administer increased funding for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and grants, prioritize emergency aid for disadvantaged communities, and oversee a new grant program for shuttered venue operators,” the letter reads. “The aid provided by these critical programs would benefit from having an SBA Administrator confirmed and actively engaged as part of the President’s Cabinet.”

Guzman has served as the director of California’s Office of the Small Business Advocate since 2019, and previously served as deputy chief of staff to the administrator at the SBA during the Obama administration.
