ICUS details support for system partners in 2020

The Illinois Credit Union System (ICUS) and LSC donated over $165,000 to credit union organizations in 2020 to support credit unions and communities both locally and nationally.

“I’m grateful that ICUS can be part of the credit union industry’s shared mission to make a difference both within the industry and community at large,” said Illinois Credit Union League President/CEO Tom Kane.  “The spread of the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 has made it more important than ever to support our communities and the underserved. Our goal for these donations was to strengthen the impact of credit unions’ efforts.”

Donations by ICUS and LSC focused on empowering credit unions in their “people helping people” mission, as well as their commitment to supporting diversity and equality. Donations made through ICUS events also contributed to a variety of local charitable organizations that empower women and youths, assist people in crisis, and shelter animals.

In addition, ICUS and LSC donated more than $5,000 to 33 charities chosen by its own employees.

Major contributions included:

  • $50,000 – Illinois Open Your Eyes awareness campaign
  • $47,000 – Illinois, Heartland, and National Credit Union Foundations
  • $25,000 – America’s Credit Union Museum
  • $14,000 – Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions
  • $15,000 – Filene Research Institute
  • $7,500 – African American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC)

“Staying committed to doing good in the face of challenging times is vital. It helps us keep our heads up and overcome,” said Libby Calderone, President of LSC. “Credit unions, which exist to help people make their financial goals a reality, are an important part of this change. I’m honored to be part of an organization that supports credit unions in their work to bring positive community change.”
