‘Advocacy 101’ talks priorities, environment leading to GAC

February 26, 2021
Cap2

CUNA and League advocacy leaders break down the environment on Capitol Hill and how credit unions can convey their advocacy message during an “Advocacy 101” video released as part of 2021 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) preconference resources.

“Credit unions have a bold and dynamic advocacy agenda for 2021. It starts with us telling the story about how we improved the financial well-being of our members and advance the communities we serve, and how policies should encourage, not impede that work,” said CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan. “In a new Congress and with a new administration we need to leverage the work we do for our members and communities to advance policy that removes regulatory barriers, expands credit union powers, enhances information security, and preserves the credit union tax status.”

Donovan, along with CUNA and League advocacy staff address:

  • Challenges and opportunities that come with online-only meetings;
  • What policies are likely to come out of a Democratically controlled Congress and administration;
  • How credit unions can be pro-active with their advocacy messaging;
  • Opportunities for bipartisan compromises before the 2022 election season ramps up; and
  • How to highlight the credit union difference with new members of Congress.

The complete video is available to registered GAC attendees and can be found by logging into the virtual platform and selecting “Credit Union Advocacy on Capitol Hill.”

CUNA has also created advocacy resources outlining the complete 2021 advocacy agenda, which includes a downloadable PDF and access to state-by-state data.
