House considers COVID bill, CFPB nominee to get committee vote

Both chambers of Congress are in Washington, D.C. this week, as the House is expected to consider the Senate-passed COVID-19 relief bill, while the Senate is expected to vote on Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary and Attorney General nominees.

The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee is expected to vote on the nomination of Rohit Chopra to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Wednesday.

Hearings CUNA is engaged with this week include:

  • Tuesday 10 a.m. (ET): Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, “Who Wins on Wall Street? GameStop, Robinhood, and the State of Retail Investing;”
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. (ET): House Financial Services Committee hearing, “Justice for All: Achieving Racial Equity Through Fair Access to Housing and Financial Services;”
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. (ET), House Small Business Committee hearing, “The Next Steps for the Paycheck Protection Program;”
  • Thursday, 10 a.m. (ET): House Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions hearing, “Slipping Through the Cracks: Policy Options to Help America's Consumer During the Pandemic;” and
  • Thursday 10 a.m. (ET): House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government hearing, “Oversight of the U.S. Postal Service.”
