Monetary policy, ID verification hearings scheduled this week

July 12, 2021
Cap1

Both chambers of Congress are in session this week, though the House will only conduct committee work and will not consider any legislation on the House floor. The Senate is expected to consider several executive branch nominees.

On Tuesday the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will conduct a nomination hearing for several nominees, including Damon Smith to serve as general counsel for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Smith, a former CUNA senior director of advocacy and counsel, was nominated last month by President Joe Biden to serve as HUD’s top attorney.

Hearings CUNA is engaged with this week include:

  • Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. ET: Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, “Review of the FY 2022 USAID Budget Request.”
  • Wednesday, noon ET: The House Financial Services Committee hearing, “Monetary Policy and the State of the Economy.”
  • Wednesday, 2 p.m. ET: House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight hearing, “Expanding Housing Access to All Americans.”
  • Thursday 9:30 a.m. ET: Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, “Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress.”
  • Thursday 9:30 a.m. ET: Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing, “Building Wealth and Fostering Independence: Creating Opportunities to Save.”
  • Friday, noon ET: House Financial Services Committee Task Force on Artificial Intelligence hearing, “I Am Who I Say I Am: Verifying Identity while Preserving Privacy in the Digital Age.”
