Politico, one of the most influential Beltway publications, covered the major CUNA/League efforts to oppose expanded Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reporting, which was left out of reconciliation legislation released Thursday.
CUNA, Leagues, credit unions, and credit union members sent more than 785,000 messages of opposition to Capitol Hill.
“On Wednesday, nearly two dozen House Democrats wrote to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Ways and Means Chair Richard Neal (D-Mass.) asking that the requirements be dropped from the bill, an effort organized by the Credit Union National Association and state credit union associations,” Politico reads.
CUNA/League efforts secured the Democrat-led letter, as well as two Republican-led letters, one signed by more than 200 members of Congress, the other signed by more than 140 members.
These efforts were also noted by Forbes, who noted CUNA called removal of the proposal a “major win.”
