Wisconsin League highlights advocacy, awareness successes

January 14, 2022

The Wisconsin Credit Union League recapped a successful year in its 2021 League Highlights. The League saw advocacy successes while also working to further awareness of the credit union difference in their state. A survey conducted by the League in the Fall found that 80% of Wisconsin voters support the credit union tax status, up from a 2019 survey.

“Wisconsinites support non-profit credit unions, who return the money they make to their members in the form of lower loan rates, higher rates on savings, and fewer and lower fees,” said Brett Thompson, president/CEO of The Wisconsin Credit Union League.

Highlights include:

  • Advocacy wins that include more than 26,700 contacts made with state and federal lawmakers, introduction of bills, and preventing the insertion of problematic language in the state’s budget bill.
  • Compliance resources including more than 91 updates to materials, compliance webinars on the latest pandemic issues, and more.
  • Educational events that served more than 3,130 members and the first ever virtual League Leadership Institute.
  • Professional and community development through the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation.
  • Partnerships to increase awareness of the credit union movement in Wisconsin, including efforts to reach broader audiences with information on credit union benefits.
