Donovan discusses advocacy leading 2022 CUNA GAC

February 17, 2022
GAC22

CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan recently appeared on CUBroadcast to share advocacy items before the 2022 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

“We’ve got a bill that should be introduced around GAC that would allow federal credit unions to add underserved areas to their field of membership,” said Donovan.

Donovan shares the “remarkable achievements” of the credit union movement, and urges credit unions to come to the 2022 GAC.

He calls advocacy a ‘participant sport’. After GAC, he recommends visiting congressional district offices and respective credit union board meetings to continue to ‘tell the story’.

“To keep that up and to keep going forward, we have to keep telling our story,” said Donovan. “We have to marry the anecdote that credit unions have through the surfaces of their members with the data on the impact. When we do that, we continue to have a positive result.”

Donovan also discusses legislations on cryptocurrency, tax status and expelling disruptive members. Watch the full interview below.
