Mia Perez and Royce Ngiam kick off the second day of the conference.

Thursday’s highlights from the 2022 CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council Conference included lessons in diversity, equity, and inclusion (move with the times but don’t overcomplicate things), leadership (be hungry and humble), social media (6 tips for better execution), and more.

Here are scenes from Thursday.

Khalilah Elliott

There are no dumb questions in the DEI space, says Khalilah Elliott, founder and chief disruptor at Gafford Communications. People learn and grow when they are curious, ask questions, and admit they don’t know everything, Elliott advises.

CEO Panel

Want to be a CEO? Display your passion, serve others, put tools in your tool belt, participate in industry groups, and find your tribe, a panel of CEOs advised marketing and business development leaders.

Social media breakout session

Successful social media efforts require a balance between branding and revenue requirements, say Kohler Credit Union Marketing Coordinator Katie Rammer (left) and On Tap Credit Union Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Janelle Herrera.

Business development session

Financially stressed employees cost their companies $5,000 apiece each year due to higher absenteeism, lower productivity, and anxiety, says Chris Stengle, vice president of business development for Canvas Credit Union.

Digital dilemma breakout session

Dr. David Tuyo, president/CEO at University Credit Union in Los Angeles, explains how artificial intelligence, robotic process automation, and machine learning can improve the member experience.

Beer panel

Craft brewers offer branding advice in a session moderated by Tansley Stearns, far left, chief people and strategy officer at Canvas Credit Union. One insight: Know your target audience and give it a persona. Understand the nuances of members’ lives so you can put yourself in their shoes.
