Rep. Don Young passes away at 88

March 20, 2022

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle issued the following statement in response to the passing of Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska.

“A longtime champion of the credit union movement, Don Young will be missed. It was an honor to serve alongside Don in the House, and working with him to promote financial well-being for all has been humbly fulfilling. We will miss Don and his decades of friendship and leadership for America’s 130 million credit union members.”

It is a sad day for Alaska and credit unions. In addition to being a credit union champion, Congressman Young always reminded us of the importance of his role as a Congressman and the role of the federal government," said Dan McCue, senior vice president of corporate relations for Alaska USA FCU. "He was very aware of his responsibility to our nation and Alaska and we were proud to call him our Congressman. He will be greatly missed."

Young served in the U. S. House of Representatives since 1973 and was the Dean of the House since 2017. Nussle served alongside Young from 1991-2007.
