FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 6, 2022
CUNA, in conjunction with the Illinois Credit Union League, launched a targeted member communications campaign supporting Rodney Davis, R-Ill., for Congress.
Davis, a longtime credit union champion running for a sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, faces a member-on-member primary in the newly created Illinois 15th Congressional District.
“Rep. Davis has long been a friend to credit unions and the more than 3.6 million members they serve across Illinois,” said Trey Hawkins, CUNA’s deputy chief advocacy officer for political action. “He has demonstrated time and again a willingness to cut red tape so that credit unions can put their resources toward advancing more communities across the state.”
CUNA is serving digital ads to over 62,000 credit union members who are registered Republicans ahead of the June 28 primary. Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee (PAC), contributed the maximum $5,000 for the primary election.
In 2019, Rep. Davis joined the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference to share his perspective on effective advocacy in the current Congressional landscape.
Earlier this year, CUNA announced its first political campaign spend, supporting candidate Katie Britt in the Alabama Senate primary. CUNA and CULAC plan to launch additional member communications and independent expenditures this year.
CULAC is among the most bipartisan national PACs, with support going almost equally to credit union-friendly candidates from both Republican and Democratic parties, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. So far this cycle, 98% of CULAC-supported candidates have won primary contests.
Credit Union National Association (CUNA) is the only national association that advocates on behalf of all of America’s credit unions, which are owned by 130 million consumer members. CUNA, along with its network of affiliated state credit union leagues, delivers unwavering advocacy, continuous professional growth and operational confidence to protect the best interests of all credit unions.
