‘Protect My Card’ campaign pushes back against interchange bill

August 9, 2022

CUNA launched its “Protect My Card” Member Activation Program (MAP) campaign to activate credit union members to share concerns with the interchange bill introduced by Sens. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill. The bill would allow merchants to route payments through an unaffiliated network.

Participating credit unions can download, customize and distribute message templates designed for employees and members, directing them to use CUNA’s Protect My Card website.  Additional resources can be found on the MAP community.

“This campaign is designed to educate credit union staff and members about the risks this legislation presents to the credit card system,” said CUNA Director of Federal Grassroots and Programs Adam Engelman. “This bill would harm credit unions, consumers, and small businesses, so this campaign encourages stakeholders to share these concerns with members of Congress.”

CUNA joined all Leagues, the American Bankers Association, and all state banking associations this week to voice strong opposition to the bill. CUNA also issued an action alert last week calling on credit unions to send messages of opposition to Capitol Hill. More than 7,000 messages have been sent.
