Credit Union National Association Backs Rep. Bishop

October 18, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 18, 2022
Washington, D.C.

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and its federal political action committee, CULAC, have committed a total of $2.5 million in campaign advertisements to help advance credit union supporters. The ads include digital ads and mailers for Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA-2) in collaboration with the Georgia Credit Union Association.

“Congressman Bishop has been a longtime champion of credit unions, whether fighting to protect the financial privacy of consumers, make it easier for credit unions to lend more to small businesses, or just helping families deal with rising costs.  We’re proud to support him and are committed to ensuring Georgia credit union members know that he has their backs,” said Trey Hawkins, Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Political Action.

“Georgia credit unions are proud to stand with someone who has always been a friend to us and a supporter of our industry. Whether it’s providing regulatory relief or getting capital into the hands of Georgians who would otherwise lack access, Congressman Sanford Bishop is a staunch advocate for credit unions, and we look forward to seeing him re-elected this November,” stated Samantha Beeler, President of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions.

Through its $2.5 million effort, CUNA and CULAC are also looking to influence voters in other key federal races, including:

  • Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV)
  • Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE-2)
  • Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA-2)
  • Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH-2)
  • Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA-2)
  • Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH-1)
  • Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22)

CUNA previously ran ads for Katie Britt (R-AL-SEN) in her successful primary and runoff elections earlier this year.

CULAC is one of the five largest trade association PACs and among the most bipartisan PACs in the country. CULAC works with state leagues to identify, vet, and back congressional candidates who support credit unions and the CUNA-League system’s efforts to promote financial well-being for all.

"We are proud of our bipartisan track record of backing pro-credit union candidates in hundreds of races each cycle,” said Hawkins. “We look forward to celebrating with this year’s candidates on November 9th and to welcoming them to the 118th Congress in January.”

CULAC and state leagues supported 333 credit union candidates during the midterm primaries with a 96% success rate. To see all CULAC-supported candidates, visit cuna.org/elections.
