Credit union champions victorious in Tuesday’s mid-terms

November 9, 2022
Elections

Credit union champions from around the country were victorious in Tuesday’s mid-term elections. CUNA, Leagues, and CUNA’s federal PAC, the Credit Union Legislative Action Council, invested $6.6 million in support of 398 candidates on the ballot Tuesday.

“We congratulate the credit union champions who won Tuesday night, and we look forward to working closely with them in the next Congress on policies that will allow credit unions to increase services to members and communities,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle.

Thirty-seven open seat candidates were among Tuesday's winners.

Highlights of Tuesdays’ results among the nine priority races in which CUNA invested in advertising include:

  • Alabama Republican Katie Britt was elected to the U.S. Senate with 66.8% of the vote. CUNA coordinated with League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates targeted member communications campaign in support of Britt.
  • Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., was re-elected to represent Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District with 54.9% of the vote.
  • Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., defeated challenger Tony Vargas with 52.2% of the vote.

As of midnight ET Wednesday, the following credit union supporters were leading their opponents:

  • Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, leads challenger Liz Mathis with 57.1% of the vote to 42.9% with 71% of precincts reporting.
  • Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., leads challenger Karoline Leavitt 55.2% to 44.8% with 60% of precincts reporting.
  • Rep. Ann Kuster, D-N.H., leads challenger Robert Burns 57.5% to 42.5% with 51% of precincts reporting.

CUNA News will provide updates on additional races as they are called.

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle will be joined by CUNA leaders for a complete breakdown of the elections results Thursday at 2 p.m. ET. Registration is currently open, and the webinar is free for CUNA members.
