Washington, D.C.
The Credit Union Times inaugural LUMINARIES 2022 Awards recognized the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in executive leadership and Samira Salem, CUNA’s vice president of DEI, for her work in diversity, equity and inclusion. The Credit Union Times LUMINARIES Awards is a year-round program intended to share stories of industry leaders.
“Thank you to Credit Union Times for the Luminaries Award. CUNA exists to be a champion for our credit unions, and it’s an honor for our leadership team to be recognized for their role in credit union successes we’ve seen over the last year,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle.
“Congratulations to Samira for a well-deserved recognition. Samira’s leadership has helped CUNA take a long, hard look at ourselves and our role in DEI, which includes CUNA both internally as an organization and externally as a leader in this movement.”
“DEI is the most powerful thing credit unions can do to achieve financial well-being for all and ensure our current and future relevance as financial institutions. At CUNA, diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than just words. We recognize that it is who we are as a movement—it is enshrined in our eighth cooperative principle-- that guides the work of America’s credit unions. I'm honored to receive this award from CU Times for work that I love,” said CUNA Vice President of DEI Samira Salem.
The categories were split into five areas: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Innovation & Technology, Executive Leadership, Product Innovation, and the industry’s Rising Stars.
