Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced Thursday she would not pursue a leadership position in the next Congress. Pelosi has served as speaker since 2019, and as speaker from 2007 to 2011.

“We thank Speaker Pelosi for being a steadfast credit union supporter throughout her historic, trailblazing career, especially her work on policies that helped improve credit union service to members,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “She has addressed the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference multiple times as speaker, and always had an open door to hear credit union concerns and issues.”

Nussle served in Congress with Pelosi from 1991-2007.

“The League appreciates Speaker Pelosi, and the continual support of credit unions and the cooperative model. She has been a trusted voice to advance our charter bills and at times supportive of the importance that makes up the credit union difference," said Diana Dykstra, president/CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.
